Qwyrdo @Qwyrdo

So… where is the slice-of-life anime about an ever expanding group of poly trans witchy femmes & enbies that we deserve?

Because IME, living in that sort of polycule sure *feels* like a real life anime… :thaenkin:

@Qwyrdo I know....

like...I'm suddenly reminded of something that @KaylinEvergreen told me last night, that Gen Urobuchi said that "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" is basically "the magical girl anime I wish I could have seen growing up"

and "Madoka" is very, very good, but it's still a magical girl anime with magical girl anime limitations

where is MY magical girl show!

@Qwyrdo I wonder if we could actually make this happen? Probably as a manga, at least to start with.

A community effort. Since I know a lot of folks who would be great at various aspects of creating a manga一story writing, character development, world building, arts, music…

And I think there is a ready made audience. Just look at the trans femme community. A thirst exists.

Something something Patreon or Kickstarter?

Hmmmmm… 🤔

@Qwyrdo Personally, I'd like to see this focused around people a bit older than the standard issue teen girl manga. Main characters in their 20s & 30s. But also featuring a few teens & folks in their 40s-70s.

We older folks get left out of media far too often, IMO. But it's important to show, in a normalised fashion, that trans women and enbies have been around for generations.

@Qwyrdo BTW thanks to *everyone* boosting and liking this thread!

It really validates my intuition that this sort of project isn't just wanted; it's *needed*.

Just like Steven Universe was needed for its Queer & poly representation.

@Qwyrdo and now we need it to go away and something better to come along ;3

*runs away*

@Qwyrdo Good to know I’m not the only one with a polycule like that

@packetcharmer It's pretty common in the social circles I frequent! :eo_cat:

@Qwyrdo @packetcharmer "you mean ALL your friends aren't trans and NB otherkin witches, what's wrong with you"

@kara @Qwyrdo I mean they’re all trans and otherkin but some are more witchy than others

@Qwyrdo @packetcharmer oh true, still it's impressive what proportion of my friends are at least curious about such things

@Qwyrdo Isn’t it more interesting and rich to live it in real life, and share it as a culture #onhere, than to watch it as a cartoon, reduced to broad caricature and genre tropes?

@demonkind Honestly I think there's value in both?

I mean, I for one will keep being me, and keep sharing my ups and downs and in-betweens :eo_cat: So I'm representing one aspect of nonbinary trans witchy personhood, no matter what.

At the same time, I'm only one person. And there's a *lot* of people, modes of being, etc. adjacent to me, who are sorely underrepresented in current media.

It's the old "by us, for us" thing. A project that could not only empower its creators, but the audience for which it's intended. Hopefully reaching folks who didn't even know there are others like them in the world :eo_cat:
