I'm sorry that you've run into enough jerks for them to color your MastoExperience. That's a very different experience than the one I have had and it seems like it might be worth it to explore different local instances for a sense of community while this weird magical accident is still happening. I'm really good at doing work and really bad at going outside. Somewhere out there I'm sure there must be a market for that but until then I am a fish thrusting its way up a tree.

One thing that you can do at midnight, the most mysterious of hours, is math. Even Mercury Retrograde mostly can't mess with math, it can only mess with you.

@distelfliege In the end, it panned out well for me - I was on my way to my final test in high school and the teacher, a notoriously tough grader, saw that I was in shock after a classmate called attention to it, gave me an automatic A, and sent me to the nurse's office. I have since become pretty traumatized by cars in some other ways but that particular instance was a victory!

@distelfliege I live in the U.S. where the streets are wide expanses - I have still been knocked off my bike onto the sidewalk from the bike lane by a pickup truck who sped off. I have a strong dislike for automobiles.

@cinnamaldehyde I'm medium old and definitely super old for my place in life but one day I stopped thinking I couldn't code and couldn't do math - I decided to start from the bottom and work my way up, and ever since I've totally been able to. I'm not the best but I'm not the worst and it's totally possible. It's never too late. In X years you'll be X years older so why not try your hand?

Duolingo Norwegian has felt really great but it sure didn't help me decrypt my MadCatz PS4 MIDI controller's instructions
