@elderbong I think that in this space the deterrence is both our profound outnumbering ~and~ administrative support, so I want to tread carefully with provocation.
One issue I had is that someone used a ~word I would not use~ very casually in thinkpiece style and while I fiercely wanted to call them out (AND DID! Then deleted) I worried that I was misreading and whitesplaining/did not understand context

@nightpool I've sort of recovered from thinking that I owe jerks something (unless it's tangled in my meatspace emotional guiltweb) BUT I want to stand up for others

It might be worth it to play over some French basics in Duolingo - there were enough cognates and words I ~sort of~ knew for me to read and like a French post extolling Vall Ha11-A and it looks like I'll certainly be getting regular exposure

Yesterday I was on here all day and I only saw two people being assholes. It was incredible.
I wrote a reply to draw one of them out then shut them down but my girlfriend pointed out that maybe I should just let this happy fun thing be a happy fun thing.
How much responsibility to I have as an internet individual to call out assholes when they're already outnumbered? I still always want to Do What's Right

In any case, I'm moving towards time where I can confidently tell my Habitica party I'm in the tavern because of ~self-care~ but one of them is a little ... straight laced.

@setavulos the thing about Esperanto is that there are no native speakers to poo poo your mistakes - everyone who studies Esperanto is just really, really hype about Esperanto.
My Esperanto is GARBAGE but I would love to see yours on my feed!
a) it would add to my sense of fantasy cyberpunk future
b) it will boost the reality of Esperanto the universal language
essentially it will just be you making the world better!

@maloki Not quite although I take your point - when I woke up this morning, my feed was all in French. As the day progressed it was all in English- as of around midnight in my time zone, it became primarily French again leading me to believe that time zones were the primary defining factor

Maybe French witch town waking up is a signal that I should go to sleep- Anglophone and Francophone users are the split (Pokemon) Sun and Moon model of the mastodon universe - where one has daylight, the other has moonlight.

@sophia My demographic is closer to yours-grew up fascinated by and reverent towards all prior computer generations to my own. I haven't seen the BBS documentary and assume that you have, but what you may not have seen is the Hungarian documentary "Moleman 2: The Art of Algorithms" -- it may not be precisely what you're looking for but it makes me feel a lot of feelings that I think you might also feel.
