@ajroach42 "A Chinese Ghost Story," the animated version. It's very surreal and super goofy both via intent and via taking itself at all seriously but it's also inexplicably delightful and magical- it feels like a cartoon made without human intervention out of the collective consciousness of what cartoons are like.
One day when I was poring over my beloved VHS copy I realized that one of its rave reviews was from Neil Strauss - further evidence that it spawned this way
