Also I'd like to send you a quick "hello" and a note that if you're on octodon.social that our beloved administrator is @CobaltVelvet. She runs this place and keeps it tidy.
It's also not free as in beer so if you'd like to keep this place running please feel free to help out her Patreon:

(note: I'm not an admin here, I just like this place)
For those who don't know me, I:
Edit Carpet Merchant of Konstantiniyya for @reimenayee and the Tapastic comic Camellia.
Write both for the ongoing webcomic Arabian Nights: Through the Sands on the Kingdoms, and work as a contributing writer to anthology comics like We're Still Here, and for journalism websites like Women Write About Comics.
I'll be writing silly stuff here, and helping fledgling creators understand comics better.
Have fun~ ^^
hey newfolk
if you're at all concerned about online harrassment / stalking i would definitely suggest turning on your account's "lock" feature, which makes it so you have to approve any new follow requests. that way you can control, to a degree, who can see certain follower-only posts.
imo mastodon still has a ways to go on the features front but this is something that can help improve your experience now.
hey new folks! as you settle in to the fediverse, you should figure out who your local instance admins are.
generally speaking, they're the folks you automatically followed when you registered, and they are probably listed on your instances /about/more page (i.e. https://your.instance/about/more).
your admins are your point of contact if you have problems, including technical issues and moderation! and they don't see everything, so reports and @mentions are the best way to flag their attention!
Heya fellow Witches Town folks, was anyone here during the defederatiom thing that would mind pointing me in the direction of seeing what happened...? I'm a little bit confused now
As I saw in my TLs, please newcomers, don't hesitate to report toots/accounts which don't respect others. Admins here are humans! 💜
Yes please make use of the report feature here, it actually does something and real human beings look at the reports and respond to them. At least on my instance anyways.

retoot to hex birdsite

There are some rotten egg dudes out there in the fediverse. The "Report" feature here is way more useful than on birdsite, it goes to your instance admins, who can stop that account interacting with other users on your instance.
Report the dicks
I put these calls out every so often so here goes:
If you're working on an inclusive game (something with POC/LGBTQ/female characters/relevant themes) please reach out to me, I would love to hear about it!
I can't guarantee coverage and I'm generally very busy but I'm always down to hear about new, inclusive things :)
Devs and admins are people too! Let them hear your thoughts, but be kind!
Seeing a couple popular twitter users join up here and say things like "Hopefully Mastodon is noticing these comments" and while they're helpful critiques, I wonder if they missed the memo that Mastodon is not a monolithic entity with a big switchboard.
