Did you forget about the part where my parents' generation of White folk in the South lynched black and LGBTQ people and beat draft dodgers? Some of the "old" people you talk to today participated in, defended, or averted their eyes from that. That wasn't Ancient history, elsewhere. That was mid-late 20th century America.

Culture war is, unfortunately, born and raised here.

When you design a CoC for your #Mastodon or #GNUSocial instance, remember that you want enough strictness to:

- Kick ESR off if he shows up
- Aggressively ban botters & 4chan
- Shut up the nazi-brigade when they come
- Protect your users from abusive third parties.
