What if yaoi was actually lesbian culture all along?
@Sparrow I think lesbians are into Yaoi because it's preferable to straight stuff and most Yuri is terrible.
That makes sense to me.
I think in general male characters, in any fiction, tend to be better written than female characters, which is why so many women (even straight, cis women) tend to identify more with the male characters. That, and I've heard the original Kirk/Spock shippers liked that romance because it was between equals, when many canon m/f relationships at the time we're definitely not balanced.
@Sparrow Right, like, I'm not going to deny there's ugliness among female yaoi fans, but if you're a fan of hot boys and NOT a fan of gendered power structures, there aren't many other options.
