I like that modern DnD has moved beyond just "high medieval western europe" for its inspiration, but now its aesthetic is just, like, a vaguely realistic-ish hodgepodge of pre-gunpowder stuff.
@ambyrb dcc is real good!
I hear Fantasycraft and Shadow of the Demon Lord are also very good DnD-likes.
I do like that the new DnD 5e book has a monk subclass that just like... lets you have a dbz aura and shoot ki blasts.
@Noelle808
my friend got the xanathars guide to everything and its new subclasses can be really cool. I want to make a cleric with the Grave Domain and just be an avatar of Anubis
It's all sun-themed BUT YOU CAN'T FOOL ME, GAME.
@Noelle808 well now I have to get it
@ambyrb Unfortunately it falls into the normal dnd trap of "you get the coolest stuff at level 15+ and who even plays that long?"
@Noelle808 I crave for a high magic setting full of overpowered bullshit and crazy high amount of magical prepwork. Doesn't need to have the same level of rules-depth as 3.5, but just some acknowledgement that this style of play is something some people actually enjoy.
@Noelle808 It's too vague and feels meaningless honestly. It's why I play dcc which is so focused on being as medieval as possible that it goes out of its way to make that interesting
