Let's play a game, to help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same.

However, I was surprised by the amount of bogus traffic showing up in my trace. Damn it, Firefox, be quiet already and just give me the HTTP requests I want to see, not all this Mozilla whatever services querying over SSL... =_=

This thread saved me by telling me how to make Firefox quiet: wilderssecurity.com/threads/fi

I was using wget before, but now I'm doing my performance tests with an actual browser.

Performance testing with cat pictures is so much more fun when you can see the actual cat pictures. :3

It has been two years since I last did anything with browser automation. Apparently, exporting HAR files has become way easier! This used to be so painful…

(HAR = HTTP Archive, basically a text file with all the HTTP Requests and Responses that belong to browsing one web page, how long it took, etc)

#WPA2 #KRACK Vulnerability Summary

* 4-way handshake nonce reuse attack
* does NOT allow recovery of WIFI password or 4-way handshake negotiated encryption key (except for linux/android which can be tricked into using all-zero encryption key--lolz)
* does allow the attacker to preform a full MITM attack on a Wi-Fi connected client
* no access point patch can fix this, EVERY client device that connects to WiFi needs to be patched

roses are red
violets are blue
in surveillance capitalism
poem reads you

and shows you ads
for flower shops
and tracks your clicks
and never stops

it cares not about
if privacy's harmed
the money is green
when people are farmed

twitter is cyan
facebook is blue
your friends are the product
and so are you

even if one disagrees with how they perceive that the antifascist communities take action, i think they should not let that argument take more space than the argument that being "anti fascism" is a good thing. i mean, when these people are going off calling antifa a terrorist group, and giving no space to what antifa literally means and never saying that that fascism is actually really fucking evil... they themselves are basically arguing that fascism is tolerable and preferable to being against fascism. well, thats about what i expect from linux boys who never had a struggle in their life except for setting up archlinux.

Walking around the campus with a notebook, checking the WiFi signal strength and running performance tests isn't too bad, I guess. Especially if it behaves as expected. <3

Me to my colleague: "I'm sitting here in the coffee maker room and not in my office because I'm doing some WiFi tests."
Him: "Wow! Why do you get to do such cool stuff?"
Me: "Well, my research is on access networks and I guess they're just more... accessible?"

Reminder that unlike on Twitter, Mastodon allows for Content Warnings (CW). These let others decide if they have the mental energy to deal with certain topics (politics, current events, bigotry, etc.) rather than you deciding for them.

You don't have to refrain from talking about those subjects here, but please make frequent use of CWs for those of us who use Mastodon as a refuge.

They're also good for hiding spoilers, joke punchlines, and long rambles, but don't forget their primary usage.

Innovation is overrated. "Maintenance and repair, the building of infrastructures, the mundane labour that goes into sustaining functioning and efficient infrastructures, simply has more impact on people’s daily lives than the vast majority of technological innovations." aeon.co/essays/innovation-is-o

Quick note for new Mastodonians:

If you try to follow someone and get an hourglass, it means they have to approve your follows.

It is not a reflection on you if this doesn't happen immediately. Notifications about this aren't in the same window as the usual "someone followed you" default notifications.

It's not like Twitter's thing. It's Masto's own thing, and some of us are a bit more security-conscious than others, and some of us are slow to review our follow requests.
