@InspectorCaracal I'm sure you could, yes. :)

As an explanation, for me it makes sense to say that some people just really like or want something, while other people are like "Meh, I don't get what that hype is all about". And then for some people, it's just like that, but with sex. Makes a lot of sense to me (being allo myself).

Mastodon users, new and old:

You can add a caption, or alt-text, to images you toot!

These captions make your toots more accessible, by giving people who can't see the image a description of what's in the image.

Just hover over the image over you attach it and type a description in the spot that says "Describe for the visually impaired" before you hit the TOOT! button.

Please also encourage Mastodon app authors to add caption functionality. And please boost. Thanks!

Rather than instances and federation, which seem like such distant terms, why not think of neighbourhoods?

A town or city has lots of little neighbourhoods. They all have their own character. Some are big, some are small. Some are full of artists, others, blue-collar workers from the nearby factory.

There's a community notice board where the neighbourhood communicates, and a bigger one that a bunch of neighbourhoods get together on.

How's that sound for an accessible metaphor?

Is there some kind of reasonably affordable Software Defined Radio out there that can sample and replay unknown 2.4 GHz signals? I've got a 2.4GHz smart light remote with a proprietary Chinese protocol that I need to sniff and spoof.

Just presented some of my research called at the "All Systems Go" conference on User-Space technologies.
Mentioned my Mastodon account: "It's like Twitter, but cooler." :D
Hope some people find me here as well. ^^

@afandian I sometimes write small things about my research (mostly getting some software to work properly) and sometimes write about research that I find interesting and that I would like people to see, like the IPv4 address exhaustion problem a few months ago. :)

@ng0 TU Berlin. There were reasons behind that choice, like I think the students need C for some other course in the first year.

@eribloodlust Good idea.
For variables maybe like drawers with some content in it?
For loops, mhh... there's probably songs or poems or something that repeats, but I'm not sure if that works.
You got more ideas?

Teaching first semester students about C is surprisingly hard. How do you explain the concepts of variables or loops when they didn't understand your first three attempts at it?

Let's play a game, to help some of the newcomers make connections: name 5-7 things that interest you but aren't in your profile, as tags so they are searchable. Then boost this post or repeat its instructions so others know to do the same.
