Really happy with that navigation app that I found as an alternative to Google :

MAPS.ME, see maps.me/en/home

It is based on data, but has a much better user experience than the other app that I tried.
It works with offline maps, so I don't use up so much mobile data on my trip. And it navigated me really well today, on foot, twice.
So, yay for alternative to the evil data gatherer! :)

There's also another popular app called #OsmAnd, which also consumes #OpenStreetMap data

@GOwin I tried this one first, but it didn't convince me. Couldn't even find a simple address, user interface was very unintuitive... broke my heart, but I went back to Google Maps because of the bad UX.

@NerdResa

You're right, it's not as intuitive as Maps.Me but once you're familiar with it's quirky interface, it's actually very powerful.

A simpler, less feature-full alternative is #MagicEarth.

It's amazing how many apps are now available using the same #OpenStreetMap database.
