the town i used to live boasted one of the country's largest model train museums

it was, for me at least, a frightfully boring day out but something my parents might throw me at during the summer holidays if they were working

once, aged about 11, having spent an outrageously boring day there, i wrote in the guestbook "Really enjoyed the moose. Thanks!"

and thought nothing of it

3 or 4 years later, i'm walking to school with my brother and his friend who volunteers at the railway museum. he told this story about how somebody once wrote in the guestbook that about this great moose they saw, and they spent the best part of the evening after closing scouring the museum for a moose but could never find it and it went down in railway museum folklore

it was so good cos normally when you do stupid crap like that, you never get to see the payoff

a year or so later my parents made me spend the day there again cos it was summer and they wanted me out the house

so a full five years after my first visit, i signed the guestbook "The moose is always my favourite part of the museum. Thanks!"
