There's 3 kinds of people in this world.

Pre-Comalies Lacuna Coil fans
Comalies Lacuna Coil fans
and Post-Comalies Lacuna Coil fans

@Mirzaba I don’t understand you kids with your tumblrs, hoola hoops, and your pac manz.

@Nerdcoresteve
ok so like, Lacuna Coil is basically a problematic fave of mine that at one point wasn't

In the earlier days they were a goth band doing music very similar to The Gathering, they were still trying to hit their stride, and they finally did it with Unleashed Memories imo.

Then they released Comalies, my favorite of theirs, and their most overwhelmingly popular among goths in the 00's.

Then after that, they went in a nu-metal direction after the vocalist started dating a member of Slipknot, and now they're married, and their music just isn't good anymore. But I liked Karmacode, that one was ok.

@Mirzaba I’ve been listening to Tight Rope. youtube.com/watch?v=n1CCgXddK6

Would you say this is representative of goth music or is this more like numetal?

Also while still on this tangent, there's several common stylistic approaches in Gothic Metal specifically....

symphonic/epic: adjacent to symphonic metal, it's soft with powerful emotional lyricism. Lacuna Coil, Draconian, and The Gathering are like this.

death-doom fallout: These are death doom metal bands who go more fantastical, dramatic, and rich in imagery and sound. Katatonia, Sirrah, My Dying Bride

goth rock but heavy: Keeping it to the roots of the goth scene, but heavier. Type O Negative, Paradise Lost, Tiamat

@Mirzaba Nifty.

Type O Negative seems pretty over the top, are they just a little in jest? A little bit of Halloween fun?

The symphonic style seems to have some similarities to rock opera, at least to me.

@Nerdcoresteve
Yeah they're much more of a tongue in cheek band that liked to have fun and poke fun at stereotypes.
