It's just not equal in a way that sits right to me and it chafes a bit and I feel like if I complain about it, I'm hating on the character dynamics, but I just like what I like and there's just... nothing really there. :<
@Maverynthia You're right. It's down to who has the money = has the power to decide what gets put in a game. And that's almost always straight white men, who get funded more easily, who are ruled by publishers and investors who also put limits on what's "profitable" (read: even worse men who don't even play games). IT SUCKS. The creators who are lucky enough to be able to finish their diverse game have to do so on a budget, because the larger system will never support them. :(
(Although, in my experience, "the publisher doesn't want this" was often just an excuse to blow ideas off with a simple explanation, because egos. So many huge egos.)

I want to say Yuri game will get the budget because the yuri games I see are aimed at *drumroll* straight dudes.
I mean Aksys decided to try otome games and.. well they are half assing it but I guess it's bringing in the money?? D3 has dipped a toe in.
I just want quality stuff :x and yeah who gets the budget.

Of course in otome games all the guys look their age or older and never look the level of "cute" that's in those moege. The female protagonist isn't fixing the guys, she is more or less being fixed by them. When they fix her, they fix their own problems.
The level that men are catered to is kind of staggering when you start to compare little details. Like in the apps Dream Girlfriend and Boyfriend, the GF app is much more fleshed out and has voice acting for the US release. BF does not...
