I think what's happening is that the wax that drops from waxflax is "molten wax", and therefore supposed to be hot. It's probably unintentional, though, to get burned alive by the wax coming off of your own body.
In similar but unrelated news, my character has somehow acquired a nasty habit of getting set on fire by literally nothing-- I can't tell if it's a bug or a feature I just didn't know about
