If you had to live in one of NYC, Albuquerque, Ft Collins CO, Athens GA, or DC, where would you choose?
@Maenad I have heard people call Albuquerque "the conservative version of Boulder" but I have not been there
okay, these jobs, in alphabetical order:
Albuquerque, NM - I get to work with distributed differential equations and write my own job description. I also get to live rent free.
Athens, GA - I get to keep doing literally exactly what I'm doing now (even funded by the same grant), I just get to do it in an incrementally more toxic work environment.
DC - I get to do a lot of signal to noise stuff in a government agency setting.
Ft Collins - I get to essentially be a software engineer in a government agency setting (different agency). On the other hand, I get to live in a state with legalization and I am of the opinion that would be good for me.
NYC - I get to... try my damn hardest to keep up with my hot latina boss as she obsesses over literally everything that cycles. I'd also probably have a really long commute so that I could live somewhere with dog and boy that isn't a shoebox.
Consideration with all of this: I will not drive.
@Maenad The DC and NM jobs both sound appealing!
@Maenad Of these I'd probably take the DC job? Seems like a fine gig, the eastern seaboard's a cool place to be, and DC has great public transit.
@Maenad Fort Collins is actually really nice. Definitely snow to deal with, but much more friendly than boulder
