1 - I was born in New Mexico and grew up in New Jersey, though I spent (generous portions of) my summers in New Mexico from the time I was 12 until the time I was 21. This included a lot of time doing trail work and hanging out on the reservation (although I am not native). Basically I am probably the worst case study for cultural appropriation and I'm sorry (although I try to be moderately sensitive about it and support native artists when I can).

2 - My hair grows really fast, but I also let it grow for long periods of time. My current haircut is less than a year old and, judging by the short bits, still grows at least an inch a month. When I got this haircut, they had to cut off two feet of hair. The stylist nearly cried but I felt pretty committed. I'm probably going to buzz it later this summer (especially if it's hot).

3 - I am not public healthy enough to call myself a public health person, biology-y enough to call myself a biology person (although that's officially what my PhD's in), mathy enough to call myself a math person (although I have a BS in applied math), or computery enough to call myself a tech person. I am a weird hybrid and I love it... for now.

4 - I'm a coffee addict to the point where multiple doctors look at my reported habit and tell me I'm self medicating. I can't stand (almost all) tea or I'd try and switch. I'm kind of hipster about it - I like long espresso and locally roasted beans and all that, but it's a lot more about "supporting local businesses and ethical beans" than aesthetic motivations (well, it is *now*, no promises about past me).

5 - I've recently discovered I'm allergic to beer (I love beer, and thought they were just hangovers, before noticing that they don't happen with like... whiskey), but find that a lot of kombucha scratches the itch that I get for beer.
