follow bots suck because:
1. they follow everyone, which means your users get zero choice who to federate with at all
2. they follow everyone, which means if people want private toots to not be seen by everyone running a follow bot they have to block all of them
3. they follow everyone, even private accounts, and they have no memory of who they previously tried to follow, meaning they'll follow people over and over and over
4. they remind me of those birdsite BUY FREE FOLLOWERS spambots
Back when I was active on Usenet it was considered pretty normal to have house rules for any newsgroup, you were also expected to refrain from posting long enough to notice and learn the unspoken customs (this was called "lurking").
Nowadays people see it as an orchestrated attack against free speech, shout references to 1984, and threaten to move elsewhere.
Yet the ones asking us all to behave politely are called "hypersensitive"?
NB: I'm not chauvinistic, it's just that I have another account for English tooting.
Mixing them up on the TL only makes it more difficult to distinguish them and use them effectively.

Bon, ces derniers jours j'ai followback à peu près tout le monde, mais du coup ma TL 'home' me sert à rien.

Avril 2017 : effaré, le monde de la restauration réalise ce que veut dire le mot bite en français à cause de la fréquence de ses occurrences sur mastodon, et change tous ses visuels "take a bite" en catastrophe.
Pour qui aime Zelda Ocarina of Time ou la bonne musique, je crois que c'est le meilleur album d'arrangement du jeu>

Hi witches, sorry to bother you but I read a lot of sad toots and confession lately in the Sabbath.
