@candle That's one of these cases where the accent is important: the a *without* an accent is conjugated "avoir".

But when it's the preposition, it must have an accent (à), precisely to clarify which one it is. :<

@candle It means "brought up to date"

@Hiraelle @candle Building upon this, "ceci/cela" can't be used with a noun, they *replace* the whole noun group.

Ce/cet/cette are *necessarily* used together with a noun, by contrast, they're not saying anything on their own. :<

@wire Fun fact 2: this was done because the original and literal translation for computer, "calculateur", was too restrictive and didn't do the possibilities of computing justice. :p

Fun fact: French people call a computer "ordinateur", which is a masculine noun for "whom who makes order",God, which is somehow accurate

@Hiraelle J'ai pensé à toi, ma mère se plaint du FROID... Avec le vent du nord qu'on se tape, il faisait 7°C aujourd'hui.

A midi, hein. :<

@Vimes @Murkrow Painfully! ^^°

Some alternate between gender accords, some try to use brand new markers, some use the spreading "inclusive speech" which also serves to avoid defaulting to masculine forms in general texts, by writing both accords into the word like "je suis fatigué.e" for "I am tired"...

English enbies: just use "they" instead of "she", it's that simple
French enbies: *sweating profusely* I HAVE REINVENTED ALL OF GRAMMAR

@candle Aw, that's a hard one indeed. :x

- To help remember the order of all those vowels, maybe I can tell you the name of that weird "œ" (alt+0156 by the way, but you can write it "oe" it's fine) : we call it "e dans l'o", which happens to sound like "e in the water".

So, it's "s-o-e-u-r", because it's the ending "eur", but the e is half eaten into the o before it - remember when I said we HATE colliding vowels and do horrible things to them when they happen? :p
