@dia @candle It's not supposed to be "for French", it's that "I can do this one accent", and it doesn't care which letter you paste it on... xD Yup, Windows alright!

On Linux it's less simple than Mac, but it's still so logical, i would *guess* how to make a character without having read the combo, it just... "Well, if I type this it would probably... yeah, that's right. :<"

Windows is PAINFUL. :x

@candle @dia Yes, the "past participle" form of a verb is always the same thing, and it's quite easy: verbs that end in -er will all be the same root but with -é instead.
It's the auxiliary before that bears the actual conjugation - and for compound past it's simple present, you already know it: j'ai/tu as/il a/nous avons/vous avez/ils ont

(Or for the few that use "être": je suis/tu es/il est/nous sommes/vous êtes/ils sont)

@candle @dia Take "manger", one of the *simplest* verbs we have that we use for all examples because of that.

The actual full table of its conjugation is as follows:
la-conjugaison.nouvelobs.com/d

*goes back to cry in a corner at early school memories*

@candle @dia Here, have a look for the fun of it:
la-conjugaison.nouvelobs.com/r

EACH LINE is a separate tense, with its own conjugation, its own uses and its own rules.

So we have to learn the full conjugation je/tu/il/nous/vous/ils, for all the verbs... for all the tenses. %D

@dia @candle Yeah, the formal grammar is outrageously complex, but you'll never actually *need* it to communicate. WE have to learn the tenses because of literature, but you'll do fine with the "compound past" (passé composé" which is as @dia said quite straightforward: present tense auxiliary + participle of the actual verb you're using. :<

The rest is French people's traditional nightmare. %D

@candle Not at all! Especially if you're already sure the person can read it (most of us here should be fine)...

@jr @candle Also "j'ai froid".. I'm sure there is a perfectly logical rule to when you should use which, but I'm afraid I don't know it... and I'm a bit too tired myself to look it up now. ^^°

If I remember it tomorrow, I'll try to sniff around. :<

@candle @Auxeras Yeah, that's pretty much it, I should have thought of it! :o

Phonetically it's something *between* English's /i/ and /i:/, so it's hard to describe precisely... ^^°

@candle @Auxeras Almost like "bit", but the i is more like the letter "e" in English alphabet

@candle (Also, sorry I forgot: the plural s is silent, like most grammar markers. ^^° )

@candle @Auxeras No, the "i" is wrong - although "petite" is normally pronounced frenchly, so that part is right. :<
