@alice I'm trying to move away from eating real meat, but god bacon/pork is delicious (I am not one of those people who is bacon everything). So I totally understand your children's feelings.
We fry tempeh in vegetable oil until golden brown, then pour soy sauce in the frying pan and let the tempeh soak it up. It's not that much like bacon, but it fills the same role in a breakfast with grits and eggs. It's very good.
