@catalina Ah, that one. It's nice, but a bit dated now. Thanks for the help though ^_^
@schonwiedersamstag @TQ Thanks, these look very useful (and in German too) ^_^
(the person I was talking to is German; mine is very rusty, but I can read it)
@Cinkero I have a bit of a headache at the moment, but otherwise I'm enjoying the long weekend 😔
@Cinkero Morning Jill ^_^
Let's try this again:
Anyone know of a quick "Introduction to Mastodon" for prospective new users in English or German?
Stuff like what federation means, differences with birdsite, how to follow people, etc.
I'm trying to explain what/how Mastodon is to someone on birdsite, but tweets are so limited in size, so a link would be quicker ^_^;

@Plumy 's okay. Thanks for helping ^_^
@Plumy That one explains Mastodon by referring to Reddit. Not very useful (even a turn-off) for people who don't Reddit unfortunately :/
@Alda Dreamy ^_^

@Alda Oh, seems you missed the icon for sigils in the "Getting started" column?
Oh, we got new sigil icons. Nice work, @Alda . Saw you tooting about it the other day, but hadn't reloaded the web UI yet.
@yellowfrog Ah, I see. I mistook you for the creator, but that's @halcy .
@yellowfrog Wouldn't it work better to connect to each site's stream API and get the toots/tweets as they happen instead of polling every 30s?
It also seems that your program doesn't keep track of the toots/tweets it produced, so wouldn't it end up endlessly retoot/tweeting the same thing?
Anyone else have this thing where if you keep the federated timeline open for a while, the leftmost (toot) column starts to blink now and then when the timeline scrolls?
@sargoth For media, yes. Internet and mobile phones did change things quite a bit though.
Remember riding your bike to the local library to find books for your writing project for school, then getting a parent to copy the images from it on the photocopier at their work so you could paste them alongside your handwritten text?
Remember calling someone (bonus points for a rotary phone dial) only to find that they'd gone out for some errand and would be completely unreachable for hours?
@sargoth It amuses me to see people reminisce about CDs the way I sometimes do about LP records or cassettes or floppies.

Yesterday Gargron helped me get his take on the project, so that I can write a mission statement. But, I would also love to hear your take, so I can combine the two into our collective statement.
This is me trying to be more transparent with the process.
Feel free to help me answer these questions:
1. What does Mastodon mean to you?
2. Where do you want to see the project go?
3. How do you talk about Mastodon with your friends?
@maloki (cont.)
3. Not much really. I've mentioned it a few times, but the ones (most of them) who don't already use Mastodon follow lots of people on Twitter, so it's a chicken&egg problem. The huge influx of Japanese users might help for friends who follow mostly artists or anime creators.
