@geekylou It would only retweet/toot one's personal toots/tweets. It would be rather heavy-handed if Twitter suspended someone for saying the same thing twice :o

Lying in bed this morning I was thinking that it might be possible to "connect" a Mastodon account with a Twiter account with a process that opens both user streams and retweets/retoots whatever you toot/tweet, trying to match privacy levels if possible, and splitting toots into multiple tweets.

I've never worked with Twitters's stream API though, and haven't even investigated Mastodon CLIs yet, so I'm not sure if it would actually work in practice.

Might be a useful thing to get people to leave Twitter for Mastodon though if it works.

@candle If I read the public timeline correctly, Spanish is the new big lanuage now, not Russian (though that might happen, who knows).

@candle It wouldn't be the capital letter at the beginning, would it?

Wow, Mylène Farmer. That brings back memories.

Is she still active? I haven't kept up with her music since Innamoramento (didn't buy Les Mots). Last I remember she was promoting some younger loli-styled singer.

@Maverynthia Your "own space"? You mean you have a web server running on your PC just for images?

@candle Oh, Windows. Hmm, not sure how that works. Maybe try selecting some kind of "international" keyboard? Though I'm not sure that wouldn't move a few characters or switch £ for $.

@candle Only one accent per letter?
You mean like only é, ī, à, ö, but not ê, ì, å, õ?
Or like é, è, ē, ë, but not ë́ or ė̄?

The former should work just fine if you have composition set up correctly.
I'm not sure the latter would work with composition, since you're not entering a single character but a letter followed by two or more combining accents.

What are your favorite image hosting sites for things like avatars and banners?

I've been using PhotoBucket for over a decade, but they've failed me too often lately.

@Sasha I kinda like seeing so many languages around. I can only understand a handful of western European languages and a little Japanese myself, but it's cool to see how international this network has become the last few weeks. Yesterday I counted 9 or 10 different languages on the federated timeline without even scrolling back a full hour.

@Sasha Haha, no that's not what I'm here for; I was just amused at seeing some words often enough that I looked them up to be sure and finding that no, I wouldn't have learned them in school because they're considered "argotique".

(apologies btw for always using English; I've retained enough knowledge of French from 25+ years ago to be able to read with a little guessing now and then, but I'm certain I'd make a horrible mess of grammar and gendered nouns&adjectives if I tried to write in French)

Learning French slang from Mastodon.. :þ

Earlier I had to restart my browser, so I got to see the new introduction thingy. It looks really nice and welcoming ^_^
(though I hope I don't have to click through it every time now)

Two things that might be useful to add are explanations of the levels of publicity/privacy (since I see people ask about and explain them frequently on the public TLs), and how the content warnings/nsfw flags work (which is still kinda confusing/counter-intuitive if you ask me; see also github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/).
