@Louvelune From a technical POV this might be correct, but it doesn't feel right. Content warnings should apply to all content. If one wants to warn others it shouldn't require marking parts of the toot separately.
Images under CWs are always shown? Seems like a bug..
@Alda I just got followed by one, and was looking for how to do the Mastodon equivalent of Twitter's block-unblock to force them to unfollow me. Then I read that it was only meant to pull another instance into federation, so I've left it alone.
Of course such bots should make sure to follow only one person per instance.
@NuitsDeChine As for synonyms, le-dictionnaire.com also gives this list: "devineresse, guérisseuse, pythie
(au figuré) cartomancienne, chipie, chiromancienne, harpie, inspirée, nécromancienne, pie-grièche, poison, pythonisse, sibylle, voyante
Antonymes : aveugle"
There's a bunch more that I can only guess at ^_^;
@Louvelune @NuitsDeChine Oh, I don't think French is unique in that. Every language has synonyms with different connotations.
@kozlika No, I'm sorry. It wasn't meant as criticism. I wasn't clear enough.
@NuitsDeChine Oh, that's interesting. In English "magic" and "sorcery" are both more or less neutral AFAIK.
Oh, I'm being dumb. There's a Synonymes button there >_<
"cartomancienne, devineresse, magicienne, nécromancienne, pythonisse, thaumaturge"
Hmm.. "magicienne" sounds kinda neutral?
Anyways, according to le-dictionnaire.com, a "sorcière" is "celle qui est réputée pour être en relation avec les puissances occultes et qui peut agir par des charmes et des maléfices".
The "puissances occultes" and "maléfices" parts sound more like "witch" than "sorceress" to me?
Which makes me wonder if there's a more neutral word than "sorcière" in French, the way "sorceress" is less specific than "witch"?
@kozlika I know the differences between the English words, but was wondering which one fits the French word more accurately. I'm seeing bilingual toots using "sorcière" and "witch", so I thought it was maybe a case of false cognates.
Now I'm wondering if "sorcière" translates to "witch" or "sorceress". To the dictionary!
@askgar Username+instance is unique, so if you tell your followers which instance you're on they'll know it's not you if the instance name doesn't match, even if it walks and quacks like you.
It wouldn't be good if tons of people would overwhelm any new Mastodon instance just to squat their usernames.
@Maverynthia Yah, the purple links and blueish grey text don't look quite right yet next to each other.
I should get me a more witchy avatar.
On my laptop now, so it'll have to wait until Sunday/Monday.
Oh, lol, now the home/notifications/local/federated timelines have been renamed as well.
Really getting into this witchy theme, aren't we? ^_^
@Maverynthia Ah, you got in I see. Welcome ^_^
Please don't expect me to toot (pouêt?) in French though. It'd be even less understandable than Dutch :o
Who'da thunk I'd have occasion to brush up on my French again.
Last time I read a non-trivial amount of it was >10 years ago. And I was already bad at it way back in school >_<
