@Maverynthia Trouble with making something from scratch is that a) how do you even start using it if no one else knows it, and b) https://xkcd.com/927/ ("Standards").
But learning new languages is still cool. It's interesting to see how languages change, like speakers of gendered languages figuring out ways to make things more neutral, or how internet speak differs from plain English.
Heya witches & witch fans!

@Maverynthia I dunno, maybe learn a not-conlang?
English and Japanese both lack grammatically gendered nouns, have fairly simple grammar, and have non-awkward ways to remain gender-neutral. There are probably more languages with nice features.
Of course, that does leave the cultural thing, but you can't really avoid that without creating something from scratch. Which would be kinda impractical.
Ugh. Turns out one of the two deodorants I bought yesterday is alcohol-based. Why is that stuff even still allowed to be sold? Just using it once is making me feel lightheaded.
@Maverynthia Ido? Why? It has most of the problems that Esperanto has: based on a handful of European languages only, arcane grammar, gendered nouns.
@Maverynthia 01:07 now and I haven't felt nauseous yet, only a lingering mild headache. I should go to bed again, but after a whole day of sleeping I'm not very sleepy yet.
It's 23:05 and breakfast was an hour ago. Maybe I'm finally getting over being sick?
@bobcorrigan Thanks for helping out, but I've already made the edits I needed directly in the midi files ^_^
(in case you were curious, I wanted to duplicate the part of the midi file between the loopstart and loopend markers, and also add "all notes off" midi events between the repeats of the loop to avoid hanging notes; first time I did it by hand with a hex editor, then made a Lua script to handle the rest of the files)
Hah, take that, evil over-complicated MIDI editors! I thumb my hex editor at you and duplicate those loops unlike a pro.
Now to see if I can make a simple script for this to automate the process.
@Stringbender @timrowe Yah, I tried looking up the midi format specs then in a hex editor duplicating the part between the loopstart and loopend markers and adjusting the length field at the start of the file, but apparently I'm doing something worng because after that my midi to wave converter won't read it anymore :(
@Stringbender @timrowe I could convert it to a wave file and edit that, but there'd be the problem of notes which start before the loopstart/end marker but are still playing beyond it. You'd cut those in half in a wave editor :/
@Stringbender @timrowe I'm not a musician. I don't even know what DAWs or measures and such are. All I want is for all the sound between the two markers to be played twice instead of once. It seems like it should be a super simple thing, but apparently it's not :?
@timrowe Ah, sorry to bother you then ^_^;
@timrowe Heya. I see you boosted my toot about midi editing and your profile says you're a musician. Maybe you can tell me how to duplicate the part of a midi file between loopstart and loopend markers? I can't figure out how to do that even though it seems like it should be quite simple.
@Raaphorst Thanks for the tip, but I'm on Linux.
What I want to do is duplicate the part of the midi file between the loopstart and loopend markers (the program I use to play them ignores these events, but I wouldn't want it to loop endlessly anyway).
I've tried about five different midi editors, but none let me simply copy paste that section. Or at least not without me having to learn all the technical details of how instruments and tracks and channels and all that music stuff works (I'm not a musician, in case you hadn't guessed).
Any audio tech peeps around who can tell me how to do some simple editing of a MIDI file?
Took another umpteen obscure tools and many retries, but I think I've finally managed to rip the music from this GBA rom. Wahey once more! \o/
Not watching the #Eurovision thing, but reading the toots and tweets now and then is really amusing.
what's even the point of eurovision if there aren't gonna be cool witches
@TroggProduction @devnull Either you held the camera super close to the fence so it's just outside the view, or maybe you removed it in a Fourier transform?
