@Alda Okay, I read the thread over on tchncs. It seems the admin is somewhat remorseful at least.
Hmm.. I'd say block the user who started it in any case, but leave the instance unblocked for now.
What are other instance admins doing? Each instance has their own policy, rules and culture of course, but it might help to talk with other friendly admins.
@Alda On second reading, I see a timestamp of 26 April on that first image, that's three days ago. How did things play out? The other two images don't have timestamps, so I can't tell from when they are.
@Alda It sounds quite bad from those images, but I haven't read the rest of the story or background.
Techncs is a pretty big instance which has been around for quite a while. The other day I read something from Gargron (from a while back though) in which he recommended the instance and admin. There's bound to be a lot of good people on the other side of the block you're considering.
Personally, I'd wait another day or two to see how this plays out. If things go bad, block. If things go well, keep it in mind to block later if it happens again.
@Maverynthia "We"? ^_^
I've looked into it a little and it seems like it would not be a huge amount of work (though testing/debugging could take some time).
The two CLI Mastodon clients I looked into seemed to be very new though, so I figured I should wait a little bit.
I'm not sure which instance the bots should use either. Witches.town doesn't allow bots I think, and I don't know how much of a burden all those bots on botsin.space are/how that instance is supported.
@Alda Looks nice 😄
Hmm, I feel like this icon also should be near the jinx writing box, but I can't really say where 😕
@Alda Hmm, this does have more of a "write"/"compose" feeling. I suppose it's hard to get the feather pen thing across in a small icon.
The ink jar looked more inkjarry in the first version.
What's the little flame for? "It's lit!"?
@Alda It looks cute, but it doesn't really stand out as meaning "reply".
@Alda Thanks for looking out for us ^_^
Maybe other instance admins would like to know about these things?
@Alda It just occurred to me this morning that we should place wards on our town against evil commercial exploitation of our data, like a robots.txt file. I see you already thought of that though. Great work ^_^
Could you maybe also add noindex tags to pages for individual users and toots so they won't be captured if someone links to them from elsewhere? According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots_exclusion_standard#Meta_tags_and_headers it seems that could happen even if there's a robots.txt file.
@Maverynthia I think it's more like you can create a Pawoo account more quickly if you have a Pixiv account. But I haven't actually tried it. I can follow people from Pawoo from here. Did you see how fast their timeline scrolls by? It seems hard to find anything in that.
@nire Only the legs? I would hope the rest of you survives too.. 😨
@saper @NinahMarie @catalina ?? I don't see any link to an English translation. Is this another case of a website assuming I prefer Dutch just because GeoIP locates me here, ignoring my browser preferences?
@Cinkero Yesterday was King's Day over here, and the office I work in was closed this Friday as well.
@jpfox https:/mastodon.social/ doesn't have it, so it's certainly not standard.
@Sylvhem If I understand the many different explanations correctly, it depends on whether people elsewhere are being followed by people in witches.town.
I only have one account on witches.town, so I can't confirm, but maybe timelines on smaller instances are even slower, and timelines on bigger ones faster?
Oh cool, https://pawoo.net/ now has their public timeline on their front page.
As expected of such a gigantic instance, it scrolls by faster than the federated timeline does over here >_<
@schonwiedersamstag Oh, it's no problem. My German isn't really good enough to write in it without embarrassing myself, but I can read it just fine.
And the links are for a friend I hope to lure over to the dark side I've been on Mastodon myself for a few weeks now. @TQ's articles explain the basics and important details for newcomers without getting too technical. Thanks ^_^
@BrentNewhall Ah, this one looks more useful. It covers about the same stuff I'd already found in those articles in German, but it can't hurt to have more resources. Thanks for the help ^_^
@BrentNewhall Uh, yah, that's a lot more technical than I was looking for. It goes into a lot of unneeded details, like Gnu Social and setting up your own instance, but doesn't cover choosing an instance and privacy settings, which are very important. It's like they're describing Mastodon to someone who knows all about the technical side of internet communication, but hasn't actually used it in the past decade or so.
