So my biggest issue with mastodon is that I feel the need to protect my identity, it seems like it would be very easy for an imposter to come along, copy my entire profile on another instance, then pretend to be me.
I'm not sure how anyone would ever be able to detect the difference if they were adding me as a new contact by my username.
I feel writing a bot to register my name on every public instance would help, or at least the major ones, to ensure no one could become me.
@askgar Username+instance is unique, so if you tell your followers which instance you're on they'll know it's not you if the instance name doesn't match, even if it walks and quacks like you.
It wouldn't be good if tons of people would overwhelm any new Mastodon instance just to squat their usernames.
