2/? that is culturally insensitive. and it plays with the respectability politics: unless an oppressed person learns to assimilate to the style required of the oppressor, then the oppressor will not use their power to help them. this my friend is nationalism, subtly, but it is. and the thing is: we notice it. we, people who aren't german, notice. and we acknowledge it to one another. but when we tell a german about this subtle nationalism, we are usually dismissed. told 'that person is just an asshole'. NO! it's systemic nationalism. you just can't see because it's your norm...

ok the thing is: germans typically have some very strongly internalized respectability politics. even in progressive, inclusive, and anti oppressive groups, german people most typically put themselves in the top positions and claim to help the people below them... this will always maintain their privilege. they never consider to put themeselves below the people who have historically been below them. so their groups which aim to help from above, they inherently other the people who they claim to help, and when these people try to be involved in organizing within these groups, they are forced to conform to german standards of communication and planning… 1/ ?
