Julia Serano on the "Activist Language Merry-Go-Round":
"[It] does not stop when the marginalized group finally finds 'all the perfect words'…
"Stigma is the engine that keeps the Activist Language Merry-Go-Round in perpetual motion…These negative meanings and the social structures that propagate them run deep and remain largely out of reach. One of the few areas in our lives in which we can exert a modicum of control is through language: the words we [embrace/discard/tolerate/not tolerate]."
@Swari so very much this!! thanks for putting it so clear!
can 2018 be the year that "endlessly sharing terrible people doing terrible things" dies?
like, i get it, a garbage person did a garbage thing and gave out a non-apology, seen this before, filling our timelines with it doesn't really *do* anything useful
Looking for people on mastodon which toot #vegan japanese-ish recipes (in either Japanese, English, French or German).
I'd appreciate a nudge, if you know any :).
A little while back I wrote a silly, tongue-in-cheek very sweary self-help book called 'Finding a balance between Caring and Not Giving a Fuck'. It's up on Smashwords:

But to help you guide in the new year with lots of profanity, here's a discount to get it for free, valid until 2nd January:

Enjoy! :P

@Hoern_ what could also be a reason: as you spin thinner, the yarn will need significantly more twist than the same length of a thicker yarn to hold together.
@distelfliege ah, then 's definitely the reason!
ich hatte die ganze Zeit die Grafik aus dem Buch im Kopf, die das erklärt, und vermutete, dass es damit zusammen hängt, und hatte sie aber noch nicht richtig verstanden :D
@distelfliege yeah, thanks for explaining!!
its breaking from undertwist. mostly in the draftzone. or somewhere between drafting and letting the twist grip it.
i guess i need to get it better what my hands are doing there.
@distelfliege but there was the thing with thin yarn on thick spindel, causes more dropping...? at least i experience a lot of dropping right now!! 😂
I started this second #handspinning projekt last night, on #nye.
with the goal to make it a little more even than the first...

@distelfliege ach cool!!
Good morning, Wandering Shop and the Fediverse where we wander!
Tea?
Today is the beginning of #yarnuary, and I’m really looking forward to seeing people's #showandtell of their projects: not only #knitting or #crochet, but also #weaving, #nalebinding, #handspinning, and whatever else, including #needlefelting.
The goal is to find fiber/fibre artists/crafters across the fediverse, whether just starting out or with decades of experience.
If you want to join us in #yarnuary and you would like a little challenge this week, why not learn how to put colors together with a technique that's new to you? If you don’t like making test swatches, you could make a coaster or something.
For instance, while I know several knitted colorwork methods, I’ve never learned intarsia, so I’m going to cast on a swatch in a little bit and try it out.
I've listed a few ideas for techniques here: https://gannet.neocities.org/yarnuary.html

"You've been chosen," the spirit said.
"What?"
"Save the world, make it kinder, cleaner, safer."
"Me?"

"We chose everyone."
