@Dauntless I agree. I am kind of biased in that my partner used gettih really good atmortal kombat and street fighter games as coping mechanisms for years, and got super good at combos. This very likely directly contributed to accelerating the arthritis in his hands. Not that its the games fault, I just wish that were not the case overall.

Also, my colleague saying that he had "not been informed about this situation" I.e. me being trans* was disarming in a way I only worked out some time later.

My uncharitable self wonders if he expected a register or something.

I have identified that how I find this uncomfortable is that it is forced intimacy.

Instead of them getting to know me &my enthusiasms, my nervous ticks, my humour, my crankyness, the person I am when I communicate, they skip to meaningful and existential conversation with no tools and no context, meaning I have to have both sides of the conversation, and manage both sets of feelings.

Afterwards I feel I have failed both of us
