Generation X had it lucky. Growing up in the modern world without the connection of the internet gave them the illusion of living in a seeming normal world.

But those kids born after them were born into the weird bullshit we all deal with. Weird ad is normal for people after gen X.

There's an oompa loompa nazi as the US president. Grown men stab each other and trade brand new cars over ketchup packets. And Videodrome is real now thanks to automatically generated childrens youtube videos.

This is normal, and it sucks.

@Garlynne the world was never a friendly place. gen x didn't have the same things we did but the world did not become horrible in only one generation.

the reason why it's easy to look in the past and say "it was better than" is because of how normalized this was _then_ as well.

there have always been people who benefit off of violence and try to silence resistance, and there have always been people who are aware of it and resist it

Garlynne @Garlynne

@mno never said it was. I was pointing out how the world looked normal to gen X people because growing up without something like the internet they couldn't see all the weird and horrible stuff happen in real time.

@Garlynne I see what you mean now.

honestly tho I would still argue that if people from that generation "couldn't see" horrible things, it's because they had the privilege to. it's so easy to discount the victims of oppression as people who are aware of it, and that is what older people who profess this view are implicitly doing
