In watching True and the magic kingdom, I think True's wishes are an allegorical device for "how writers solve problems."
It could be more abstracted, though. True facing the problems herself makes it more of a personal involvement. I could imagine an ideal of this would be a tv series about a writer of "deus ex machina." Someone who goes around fixing problems, but requiring poetic justice to work..
Ps, near the end of episode two seems to have a really genuine friendship jealousy concern revolved in a really powerful way.
