Curious about wigs? Want to learn more? My wig tutorial video is finally live! (Subtitles to come soon!)
@guerrillarain @somarasu @roastbeest @subunitA I'm hoping to watch it this week! Crazy things going on,but I'm really glad to see it! You want a reply at that anonymous-statements-ok site?
@guerrillarain I watched it earlier today and took time-based reaction notes, Rainš§!
3:28 "it all fucking looks the same to me" lol
9:05 "millennial badass slash saucy grandma" lol.. Been both, ha.
10:15 "very cute and valley girl" š with the hair swishing!
I think 11:50 about the lace on wigs: this was very useful, I hadn't seen lace on wigs, nor trim them..
12:45 "broke like me" yes š I š am š
12:58 I thought I saw a visual bug in there, but might've been my device
14:25? "Dirty" or "grungy" š though I don't see them as possibly self-aggrandizing terms here
14:51 "wasting my time" relatable!
Wig stand? I don't have one..
17:46 no sign off? Ah well
(More)
@Filene AH! You make good points. I recorded like 5 sign-offs and felt so cheesy and unnatural and then I got a cute little thing but I cut it weirdly and ruined the clip so I had to leave it out š«
@guerrillarain Well, I'd rather have nothing than something you couldn't stand behind. (Also, I feel some bittersweet humor your pained expression. :)
@Filene but also thank you thank you thank you for all the feedback. I've never made any kind of videos like this so this really helped!
@guerrillarain Yay! Your first video taught me a bit about editing, and creation, too! Thank you for making it a reality!
@guerrillarain So, this video was a good introduction to your methods, which I think is better advice than trying to be "an ultimate introduction to wigs." Your editing was perfect in maintaining interest and keeping pace. The video felt much more personal than a bunch of "scenes" you had to cover, so the editing did show you jumping out of a discussion to a new one. No biggie. I wish I could've seen how you store your wigs, plus an example wig stand. But it wasn't necessary for the fantastic overview of your styles, how you keep your hair down, and so on.
I'll remember to spray conditioner. I still haven't..
@Filene I forgot to share my other things, but this is the wig stand and wig caps that I use:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CQSAMK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I just store them in my closet. If I'm not wearing, I just stuff it back in the bag or on the wig stand, depending. I may make another video for storage and other topics.
@guerrillarain You said you let the wig dry from conditioning on the stand, right? Ok, I don't let it dry from washing, but I'll do so for conditioning. :) I thought it wouldn't be a mannequin head
@Filene oh hahaha yeah, essentially the only thing is that you don't want the cap to lose its shape so as long as it dries on *something* after conditioning that maintains the shape, it's okay. I like the styrofoam heads because whenever I want to comb it out or straighten, I can leave it on there and maybe pin it down.
@guerrillarain wait, conditioning risks the wig lace's shape? I thought washing did, as I've gotten advice to never let it dry stretched out in any way. You say it would lose its shape in the opposite condition, where I don't put it on a conditioned wig?
@Filene OH, no I mean, not using a stand may risk losing its shape. Sorry! Washing and conditioning are okay, so long as a stand is involved afterwards.
@Filene It may depend on the wig, but I've been told to let it air dry on a stand (or mannequin head) and so I've done it, and haven't run into any issues...
@guerrillarain wow, it's like we've ended up in two distinct and opposing camps. Maybe I can afford to lose a wig to testing what you were advised someday. We're pretty awfully broke.
@Filene Test it on a REALLY cheap one. So far, I've had these two wigs since early May, and have washed 3-4 times (one 3, the other 4) and I don't notice any changes yet.
@Filene I'll keep you in the loop. š
@Filene Sure! Or here on Mastodon, whichever you prefer. I just want to make sure it was an actually helpful video.
