question for those who program/code, how did you get into it?

what got you through the phase of wanting to give up (how I feel now) and push yourself to continue learning?

what was the first language you learned and why that language?

I'm asking because I am finding myself jumping from different languages to learn and bouncing from o email tutorial to another.

any advice given is greatly appreciated.

@wwalt For the feeling you currently have, I would say that learning even small things from different languages is always a good thing as it forces you to understand the different concepts behind languages, and not just the syntax. When you understand those concepts, switching from a language to another is not very hard.

If you want to stick on a language for some times, you should try to write a small application in that language for yourself. A small, limited game, even non-interactive like the game of life. A small web application you could use on your website. A bot tooting some generated stuff.
