I don't get all the hate regarding systemd to be honest. systemd happened in it's complete mediocrity because noone who knew better invested the time/resources needed to create something better. There was a vacuum where an init system replacement was needed and as with politics, software and a bunch of other things, when good people do nothing then bad/barely acceptable/mediocre solutions pop up.

Lennart already did that with pulseaudio, why would systemd be any different?

@szbalint systemd is a red hat backed project.
There is no excuse for it to be mediocre.
Also it was sold as an init system, but it does a lot more.
It doesn't bring value when it reinvent the wheel, especially when they get it wrong.

Also poeple are not naive init daemon is crutial for controlling the rest of the OS.
When it becamed the defacto standard, systemd brought a lot of control back to RH.

@szbalint @kyzh Systemd wouldn't exist if there wasn't a copyright assignment to Canonical for contributions to Upstart (Red Hat used Upstart as init before switching to Systemd).
