Progress! Little hearts are detailed and need mica powder brush then glazing, and the tags need details then mica & glaze. No Posca paint pens were harmed during the making of these craftyboops. Oh yeah, and I stuck shiny rhinestones on 'em for a bit of sparkle :D

2016. Study of NGC278.
Its the art post friday in #editbacklog. :D

The goal in this study was to see if I can make sense of what is seen top down on the Hubble image, from another angle. Not my best work, but then again that is not the point of an exercise like this.

Hallo everyone! Mind if I take a moment to explain something I've been working on? It's called Agora. It's a new kind of internet forum designed to allow large number of people to discuss complicated topics and reach meaningful outcomes. I'm the lead, though I don;t really know what I'm doing. You can find a demo site here: forum-demo-88817.onmodulus.net, and the source is linked in the about page in the upper right. As for potential, we'll have to see, but ultimately I hope for it to allow us to tackle huge intractable economic and social problems, like poverty and homelessness.

I used to read scientific papers and think, "This is hard to understand because I'm not smart enough or informed enough to understand it." Now I have read enough papers to know that, actually, a lot of scientific writing is awful. This becomes especially clear when you read two papers on similar subjects, one that is impossible to understand and one that is clear as day. Background knowledge is helpful, but if you have that knowledge and STILL have to read every paragraph three times to make heads or tails of what is going on... it's not you, it's the authors.

So, lastly, I've been watching the anime Rewrite and I've been pleasantly surprised.

At first glance you'd say it's a harem anime, but it's not really one? There are a few clichés, but nothing too exasperating or lewd. Like, all the girls are not in love with the main character. Barely do we see that one or 2 are flustered, but in appropriate contexts.

The characters are well written I think. Nothing extraordinary, but it's different enough to be mentioned. And the plot really is intriguing.

the fact that "social justice warrior" is considered by some a derogatory phrase is rather strange. justice refers to truth, reason, law, and secondarily, morality. all of which seems like things we would want applied to each other, right? even nazis expect social justice amongst one another.

we might as well start insulting our peer's interest in our well-being by calling them friends.

Here's an image of M82 I made from archival Hubble data at one of our outreach events the other night. (The high school kids I was working with made better ones.) red=I filter, blue=B filter, green=Halpha filter witches.town/media/6loHeBfYOTl
