'crises' might bring you very close very quickly, and 'sharing deep emotions' or 'processing' might, too, but unless you want to live in the middle of the fire, you gotta find something else.

it was very fight or flight, but in my heart. So i took and and taking a bigass step back, and making myself available to those people only to talk about things that aren't work for me.

and honestly? I feel a billion times better?

I realize the need doesn't go away, we live under scarcity and particularly the marginalized among us. but I was not 'doing good' anymore, i was just piling up resentments, and now i'm like..... not doing that.

i, personally, have been doing a medium amount and sometimes a lot of care work and/or 'emotional labor' in certain of my friendships (nobody is being subtweeted, it's just fax) and i was starting to resent my friends even when they wanted to talk about things that weren't directly asking for emotional support, because i knew the /next/ thing was coming down the pipe, and i didn't have the fuckin' energy for like 'regular' normal whining about, like, missed busses or bad cereal or whatever.

we live in a world that asks too much of those of us who can least afford it, and we live by our communities. It is morally good and frequently necessary to push through difficulty.

but also, sometimes, you hit a wall.

It doesn't matter if you did 'enough' to get there. What matters is there you are. And if you don't take a step back, you will not only make things worse for you, your 'help' won't be.
