@shel oh yeah, Jimmy who dated Jalana for a while and uh the kid who went to my HS who i think changed their name to Sam recently but was called something else back in HS, and this kid named Henry who was a year below you and i think a couple other people.

@shel i did a quick google to check my hunch (i grew up calling it either pointer or index finger equally) and apparently it's from the latin! so presumably same root as index like the part of the book that points u to stuff

@shel granted my mom and a lot of other elderly southerners point with their middle finger instead, so for them it's purely random, but for the rest of us.

@shel index is for pointer, right? it means the finger one uses to indicate
