The names we use for fingers are kinda silly
Thumb: this is a unique word for this finger, sure
Index finger: why do we call it that??
Middle finger: sure
Ring finger: heteronormative but fine
Pinky: ??? Diminutive for pink?? Why??
@shel index is for pointer, right? it means the finger one uses to indicate
@shel granted my mom and a lot of other elderly southerners point with their middle finger instead, so for them it's purely random, but for the rest of us.

@shel i did a quick google to check my hunch (i grew up calling it either pointer or index finger equally) and apparently it's from the latin! so presumably same root as index like the part of the book that points u to stuff
