@FStewartT added some black pepper, added some red chili flakes, etc. DON'T SALT IT YET!!
then the recipe said to boil it all for 40 minutes. I used my instant pot with the pre-setting for cooking lentils and came back when it had been done for a while. then when it was done cooking i added Tons of Salt To Taste (keep tasting for salt!) as well as a dash of hot sauce and some nutritional yeast. mixed it up and then simmered it uncovered to let it reduce while i toasted some bread to eat with it

@FStewartT it's from the back of the bag of lentils lol tho i modified it.
1 cup green lentils
3 cups broth (i put chicken bouillon in water)
1tbsp olive oil
2tsps chopped garlic (i use the jarred pre-chopped stuff)
1tsp ginger (i used the squeezey bottle purree stuff)
recipe called for a diced onion but i didn't have that so i added onion powder
1tsp curry powder; and season with what you got so i added a tsp of garam masala, a dash of tumeric, a dash of cumin, probably a tbsp of cilantro,
