The biggest mistery for me in Japan so far is still why 有 (~«there is», the idea that something exists, happens, etc.) and 機 («machine», «mechanism», «loom» but also «occasion» ?!) put together can manage to mean «organic».
@Eve Thank you so much ! Yeah, I had found that the term was also employed for organic chemistry but I missed that the 機 part alone could mean «carbon». Now I can drink «organic coffee» with some peace of mind 😋
