so anyway because we have to

lets talk a little bit about context behind songs saying to ditch your racist friends.

When you are silently complacent to a friend's racism, you let them know that its okay for them to hold vile opinions.

you literally give them more reason to be racist.

you tell them to change their views/friends and call them out on it, time and time again, and you actually push back against the things that keep systemic racism alive

as a white person, it plus fixing your own racist views you can do to show that you recognise that systemic racism exists.

and the bare minimum is literally not enough.

The reason that systemic racism and such can continue to thrive and grow is all of us pretending that its just a thing that a few people say and covering our ears and eyes as we watch people targeted.

Complacency is practically the same thing in the end as being for it.

so yes, ditch your racist friends. Accept that you hold racist views and work at eradicating them from your mind. Accept that racism is a thing that was taught to you without even knowing it, AND WORK AT BRINGING DOWN SYSTEMIC RACISM.

@rachel did I miss some earlier element in this conversation (probably)?

@Eve someone messaged us saying that they love all their friends, even if they are racist, and they won't ditch their racist friends, on a post from 12+ days ago...

❄️Eve🌘🌬 @Eve

@rachel aargh sorry, should have read through more carefully...

@Eve no problem, we didn't thread it [on purpose] we weren't expecting this to go how it did.
