hey uhh duckduck go probably tracks you anyway? It even has connections to bing -_-

@Concerned_Catgirl In theory they proxy requests so other engines don't know what you personally looked up. In effect that just moves all of the burden of trust onto them, because we can't prove they're running the DDG version from the git repo.

@SiliconN0iz @Concerned_Catgirl

There is P2P alternatives, but they usually do not provide as much results as DuckDuckGo/Google.

@binero @Concerned_Catgirl Like YaCy? I really ought to take a look at it again. I'm worried about crawling risky stuff and would need to look at relevant laws.

@SiliconN0iz @Concerned_Catgirl Exactly. In all honesty, I don't really care about the laws in such instance. Even if it's illegal and you are terribly unlucky and end up in court, any reasonable judge will leave you off with nothing more than a symbolic punishment.

@Concerned_Catgirl I run a public searx instance and it has been very nice.

@Concerned_Catgirl However, searx is just a meta-search engine. It aggregates searches from ddg, bing, yahoo, etc., as a sort of proxy.
