Though like all I gotta do to realize why they did that is play Silent Hill 3 or 2 with "2d controls" (camera centric). I get disoriented and lost and repeated enter in and out of the same door on accident every time the camera angle shifts. And then I'm begging for tank/character centric controls again. It's almost required for that camera style where you only see only whatever the designer wants you to see.

Parasite Eve and Eternal Darkness got around it only by being incredibly careful with how it did their camera angles and transitions.

Though I mention that because like RE4 still has tank controls and yet it's still heralded as the greatest achievement of mankind.

So it's probably not really "tank controls" people hate as much character centric controls in contrast to "traditional" camera centric. ie pressing up moves your character forward relative to their direction instead of forward in relation to the camera.

But this more because I hate any game where my character's back takes up 60% of the screen. Nothing to do with the tank controls.

Tank controls are perfectly fine, as long as it isn't in a over the shoulder third person shooter.

Oh dear, every time I go to dice.camp I wind up getting star struck.

I kinda wanna make a romance focused table top RPG just because I could see something like shoujo anime love triangle bullshit be very fun and chaotic as something to play.

But also I'd be worried that like whatever I could be make would just inadvertently wind up being a shittier version of Monster Hearts.

And I wonder WHY? Like, is it because the free form forum rpgs have very larger female audiences compared to table top?

Or if text only makes people more easily detach their characters from themselves and the other players than voice chat or in person games?

Or just the focus of how table top centers your ABILITIES/cool powers/stats etc. in character creation reinforces the character as player avatar. And makes you think more mechanically about just what you can do with what's given to you there. Instead of just trying to be a character in the collaborative story.
