Coming from free form forum rpgs to table top rpgs, I've noticed how differently sex and romance are treated in the table top space.
Maybe you'll flirt up an NPC but that's about it. Anything between party members is rare. And romance focused RPGs or ones involving sex (in ways that aren't limited to rolling for anal circumference) like Monster Hearts or Hot Guys Making Out are seen as incredibly odd.
In free form, romance is a MAJOR genre, even without the possibility of cyber sex.

Ben Lehman and Caitlynn Belle wrote a roleplaying game, The Tragedy of GJ237b, that has been nominated for a Nebula Award.
I'd call the game a roleplaying poem (a category of RPGs I love to explore), and it's beautiful. Its subtitle is "A role-playing game for no players."

I will admit the thing that ultimately made me realize I was trans was actually a little web novel, The Saga of Tuck. I'm really glad that author's site ended up having a lot of nice resource links about that kind of stuff, even if they were outdated late 90's ones.

For some reason I just imagined like futuristic aristocracy doing formal duels with mecha.
I guess would get around the "the robots aren't practical" part
since it's like not actual warfare and the mechs are the property of people with more money than sense. Maybe have mechs be treated like fashion, sports cards, etc.
So the new characters are Vegeta and Utena.
Also I learned that Utena is apparently far more obscure an anime than I thought.
And that people think any anime looking character with a sword is from Fire Emblem.
