So they've pulled a Casca on Jun in the new Mazinger movie; she's now one of the lightest in the cast. But her being black (and dark at that) was kinda important to her character. Mind you, she could still be black. And the idea that Great Mazinger was some great progressive anime is laughable. But it still bothers and puzzles me. It COULD be a push away how Jun Honoo was likely a complete rip off of June Sanders from Sign wa V!, with whom she shares a similar name, backstory, and outfits. But I really doubt it.
