Today in useless anime history, I'd like inform you of Mazinger Z's Sayaka Yuki. She was the first mecha pilot of anime/manga, proto-Asuka, and eternal queen of jobbers.
Sayaka is actually skilled; she literally teaches the protag Koji everything he knows about piloting. And she takes the job of saving the world more seriously than he does despite being treated like shit by her peers. Thing is, the robots her scientist father builds her are garbage that usually only can attack with... breast missiles. She's about as useful in combat as the actual gag character ally. And so her role in the story mostly falls back on tsundere love interest for Koji.
@MeimuHakurei Nah, the Kabutos actually make good machines; even KOJI can make something stronger than what Prof Yumi made for Sayaka. It seems more like Prof. Yumi is completely incompetent. Or at least he seems that way in comparison to the Kabutos and Dr. Heinrich.
