Huh. I wonder how long it'll be before people have to worry about having their genomes published on the internet, and people doing weird obnoxious stuff with it. Like, somebody manages to get a DNA sample from a celebrity, and then random women are paying for synthesized embryos so they can have their kids, without the celebrity being involved or approving in any way. You know, weird shit like that. :/

I haven't played magic much lately, but damn do I like the color wheel from that game. I don't think it's super useful for describing the universe, or anything, but it's very interesting, and very colorful. :V

Anyone else read Garth Nix's old kingdom series? They're good book, I like them a lot, but at the same time I can't help but feel they could have been so much better. In particular, the books make use of all sorts of symbolism regarding order, freedom, duty, stability, progress, conservation (That is to say, the conservation of institutions - kingdom, abhorsens, clay, etc.), etc. But it doesn't really go anywhere with it, or make a very strong, clear message. It's kind of like he's recycling these cause he saw other people using them, without having a strong grasp on what they mean or what he wants to communicate with them. :/

Also: Sorry about the giant wall of text. I ran into the character limit and didn't have any left over for a CW, and didn't think it would be important. Then I saw what the thing looked like in my TL and regretted my life decisions. :X

Hey all, so I've got a programming question. For agora, I'm using meteor, a JS framework built on node. (Yes, I know. I picked it out years ago when I didn't know better and I don't have the time to rewrite it. :X) Anyway, it pulls data from the server using subscriptions, which are nice cause they're reactive (They update when the data changes). The downside is they're relatively heavy. Anyway, at the moment I just have one subscription for all the data in the site, but that won't scale. So I need to have some kind of dynamic subscription. But I'm not sure whether to subscribe to each post, or try and package things. Please advise?

...Huh. People have been talking about how they don't like javascript. But it seems kind've essential to things like mastodon. Unless, of course, you make a desktop mastodon application. Anyone done anything like thus? :/

tfw your glasses spontaneously fall apart and refuse to be put back together, unpleasantly reminding you of how bloody helpless you are without them... :/

I'm not super confident in this, of course. It does occur to me that it might not be very possible, or practical, to do such, and so we'd be better just sticking it out and trying to tackle the problems themselves. But I do think it's worth taking a look at. :/
