@c25l Well, I meant the civil war. As for revolutions, I actually would prefer to avoid them, as they seem to turn out badly like 90% of the time. That's not always possible though. :/
@c25l That basically rules out all revolutions, though. I mean, I don't like killing any more than the next person, but sometimes it's necessary. Like, imagine we'd held off on having the American civil war to save lives. That'd mean a good half a million people not dead. But today? They'd be dead all the same, and we'd still have slavery for our trouble. :/
@c25l Aye, though that describes Russia in general in this period - lots of people took that approach. :/
Hmm. So what is y'alls opinion on Lenin? Personally I think he was honest and dedicated, but also ruthless and fanatical. He also seems to have been entirely too unwilling to consider nuance or admit to his mistakes. :/
@floatoverblow @bob Well, it is a little about A.I. I don't think hostile A.I. of superintelligence are the big problems, but I wouldn't write then off either. :/
@floatoverblow I mean, I agree with most of the things you say there... But also there are a dozen /other/ reasons to worry. It's pretty late, so I don't want to go into it now, but if you like I can give you an in depth break down tomorrow? :/
I will say, my fundamental worry isn't the A.I. itself, it's the question of how well we'll handle that kind of power, and what we'll do with it. :/
@natecull @floatoverblow When it comes to A.I. at least, I dont think he's wrong. I was literally kept up for a lot of last night worrying about it. :/
