Hmm. Does anyone else think that it would be cool if you could worm a variety of different jobs, instead of just one? Like, obviously you're only going to be super skilled at one thing, but being able to take a day to just plant trees or whatever might make for a nice change of pace every now and again. :/
@Angle
being paid to plant trees once in a blue moon would be brilliant! Or to help run a user group. or…
Or, I guess, just have employment work so that you actually had the free time to do things you wanted to…
@Angle My work varies from client billing in a law office to janitorial in a residential building to pet sitting to developing advertising materials to professional organizing to running a monthly inter-generational crafts event.
I haven't planted any trees, but did spend one weekend setting down decorative stonework in a city tree pit.
@Angle Ursula K Le Guin writes about this kind of life a lot in the dispossessed
@Angle SMBC has a somewhat related comic that I really like: https://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=2722#comic
@Angle This is likely to be the only way I can stay sane once I re-enter the work force, having experienced burnout and severe depression. I can't do 40 hours a week in tech, which is my only (for now) major moneymaking skill.
@Angle this is the enlightenment as far as I can tell
